Draw for the 3rd Bavaria World Darts Trophy
Tony David and Steve Duke are off to the Netherlands again in
September for the Bavaria World Darts Trophy. The Australian
Darts Championships will be an ideal warm up for both players
in preparation for this world class event.
From Saturday September 4th until Sunday the 12th for the 3rd
time the Bavaria World Darts Trophy will be played. Again the
location is the ice-skating arena “the Vechtsebanen” in Utrecht.
40 of the World best darts players (men and women) from 11
different countries will come to the “Domecity”. Among them
the two last years winners Raymond van Barneveld (right) and
Trina Gulliver and also other favorites like the current Lakeside
champion Andy Fordham, the Winmau World Master Tony West and
last years Bavaria WDT finalist Mervyn King. Also Ted Hankey
and this year Tempus IDL finalist the Australian Tony David
will go for the big price. For the ladies title we may not
forget the Rotterdam based Francis Hoenselaar. For the first
time ever a Russian will participate in a Dutch Grand Slam
tournament. The 20-year-old Anastasia Dobromyslova showed her
skills last year and she is the one to watch!
The 28 best men of the World and the 6 best ladies available
form the field of players. Completed with 4 wildcards for the
men and 2 for the women, the list shows a field of 40 of the
World’s finest darts players.
Raymond van Barneveld will try to successfully defend his Bavaria
WDT-title as he did with his Tempus-IDL title in May this year.
The Bavaria World Darts Trophy (BWDT) is one of the four Grandslam
tournaments and is organised according to the knockout system
as this is organised at the Lakeside World Professional Championships
in January each year in Frimley Green Surrey. The prize money
exceeds a total of € 200.000, (=130.000 BP) and the winner
of the men’s event may add € 45.000 to his bank account. The
winning Lady will be € 8.000 richer. Also a brand new car worth
€ 120.000, (80.000 BP (not a joke!)) is available for the first
nine dart thrower. “Car Centre Pietersen/Riva Den Haag” sponsors
this car. Also World ranking points are to be won. This year
16 points for the mens winner.
Almost all matches will be live broadcasted by number one Darts
channel SBS6 and also regional TV company “RTV Utrecht” will
show highlights of the event.
The draw took place on July 8th in the “academy house” on the
domsquare in Utrecht. A unique location besides this year 750-year-old
350 feet high “Dometower”. Watch by major of Utrecht Miss Brouwer
the draw was performed by “the Dutch Tom Jones” from The Hague,
Henk de Jager.
Below the draw is listed. The draw shows some interesting first
round matches. We have to say goodbye to a former Embassy winner
after the first round. 2000 winner Ted Hankey will meet 2001
champion John Walton. Title defender Raymond van Barneveld will
meet New Zealand’s Peter Hunt. They also met each other in 2004’s
Lakeside first round.
In the ladies event title defender Trina Gulliver (left) will
have a difficult task in overcoming Russia’s Anastasia Dobromyslova.
The Russian is a very promising darts talent.
Again Karin Krappen and Mieke de Boer will meet each other,
as they did in the first edition of this event. It was Mieke
the Boer who won the match and after that she went on and won
the event. |
