McLeod
and Whitlock – Both back at Australia’s Number One
for 2004
Dot
McLeod (pictured right) returned to the number one ladies darts
player status in Australia at the end of 2004. McLeod was last
ranked number one back in 1998. This has been an outstanding
performance by McLeod winning six DFA Ranked events, including
her States Singles title. Her success has not been limited to
victories in her home State of Western Australia either. She
had a strong finish to 2004 winning both the Alice Springs Open
and the Golden Nugget in the Northern Territory over the last
few weeks.
Kerry Jacobs was unable to retain her number one ranking title
which she had won back last years. Jacobs has had another outstanding
year though, winning five tournaments and placing second in another
five events.
In 2004 McLeod won the ranking race from New South Wales Kerry
Jacobs by just five and a half points and Tassies Helen Johnson
by ten points. Johnston also had a great year winning four titles
in her home State and was also a finalist in three others. Carol
Forwood finished of the second half of the year strongly with some
big victories which pushed her back up in fourth place.

Once
again a Queenslander Simon Whitlock (pictured left) has had a
very busy year in 2004. He finishes the year Australia’s
number one ranked male player. This year has seen Simon do some
serious traveling playing in five states and a trip to England
for the Winmau World Masters as well. He is again heading off
overseas shortly to get ready to contest the 2005 Lakeside World
Professional Darts Championships starting January 1 st. He had
a great year in winning the Australian Grand Masters, Pacific
Masters and Australian Singles and four other DFA Ranked tournaments
in three States. Simon was last ranked Australian No.1 back at
the end of 2002.
Tony Fleet again retained the number two spot.
He had a consistent year winning events in both the ACT and
NSW and put in big performances in the Pacific Masters and
Australian Grand Masters. Last year’s
number one Steve Duke dropped down to the number eight spot.
Tony David moved up one space to number three, while Frank
Tarr jumped in at number four after a strong return to the
dart scene in 2004 to replace Barry Jouannet who slipped out
of the top ten.
