Queensland wins Delegates Doubles

2004 was the 25th year of the Australian Darts Championships and it just happened that the first Australian Darts Championships were held in Canberra. PainfulTo honour the celebration, the ACTDC thought it would be a great idea to revive the Australian Delegated Doubles on this occasion as this event had not been contested since 1993 when Dennis Nolan and Mark Heinze of South Australia last won the event in Brisbane.

As usual in this event the standard of play was exceptional. Most of those participating have had many years of experience at this level. If you are an up and coming player and you want to learn about tactics, Whats left?sportsmanship, etiquette, protocol, diplomacy, decorum, good manners, great planning, the best of order, well this is definitely not the place to come and learn how the sport of darts should be played. All the old tricks come out in this competition, like the clinking of darts or coins in the pocket by the opponent when you are throwing, the old sympathy trick of telling everyone you are injured for your poor play, being asked for a drink half way threw your shot, someone throwing a 180, claims of nine dart games when you can’t finish a game of 601 in 9-darts, throwing out of order so the better partner has a better chance of wining the leg, talking while other players are talking, walking straight back at their opponent slowly, encroaching over the encroachment line etc, etc, etc.

Jeff Lacey and Terry TaylorAll those that played enjoyed an evening of fun and frivolity. At the completion of the round robin event, the winners were Queensland’s Jeff Lacey and Terry Taylor (pictured left). They played brilliant darts all evening, managing to lift their game when the pressure was placed on them by the opposition, unable to drink their opposition under the table and the non support from fellow Queenslanders was enough to out play all opposition. Congratulations to you both on an outstanding performance.
