AUSTRALIAN TEAMS DARTS TITLE HEADS BACK WEST

Today the Western Australian Ladies State Darts Team won their seventeenth Australian Ladies Darts Teams title since 1972 when this event was first played.
The WA Ladies have been a powerful force in this event for many years winning eleven on the last fourteen titles. They have missed winning this title for the last two years but came back in 2003 with a very strong team, which included three ladies that have represented Australia at international level.
WA Ladies Team
The WA Team, Captained by Betty Hislop played great darts to complete the seven round competition over the past two and a half days undefeated.
They defeated QLD 6 – 5, SA 7 - 4 and defending Champions NSW 9 - 2 to clinch the most prestige’s trophy in Australian darts.

Playing for WA were Dot McLeod, Natalie Carter, Louise Ball, Samara Ash,
Kim Kelly, Dolores Williamson, Valinda Van Der Voet and Gillian Hackett.

Queensland placed second with only one loss. They played consistent darts over the last few days but that one loss in a very close match to WA 6 –5 was the difference between the two teams.
Competing for Queensland were Pam Burr, Nancy Homer, Kelly Barnes, Michelle Morgan, Margaret Smallwood, Maureen Piggott, Ann Lacey and Anita Tapau.Qld Ladies Team

WA and Queensland put a dent in Victoria’s chance at winning the title in the first two rounds of competition.
From that stage on they were not able
to catch up, winning the last five rounds to finish third.

The Men’s Team event has shot back over to Queensland after a tense and final round of competition. They dominated the event losing only the one round to South Australia 6 – 5 late yesterday. That loss gave other states the opportunity to win the title but they still had to beat Queensland. These other states could not capitalize on the situation as Queensland played brilliant darts in all of their matches. Queensland has been the power state at darts over the last six or seven years winning the title on five occasions. They were defending champions having won the title in Gosford in 2002. This year they showed once again how strong darts is in Queensland. Western Australia, a power state in men’s darts for many years was in the hunt for the title as well, but the Queenslanders defeated WA in the first match today, which virtually ended their hopes of winning the title.Qld Men's Team

Today Queensland had wins over
WA 7 - 4, NSW 7 - 4
and ACT 9 - 2.
Captain of Queensland Terry Taylor had a very talented team with plenty of youth on their side. Three of them have come through the junior ranks having represented Queensland or Victoria at Australian Junior Championships.
This years team consisting of David Muller, Steven Duke Jnr, Eddie Booth, Simom Whitlock, Danny Graham, Gordon Glen Mathers, David Marshall and David Nogar Jnr.

Second place went to Western Australia. WA were lead by Captain Henry Forman and they had a couple a close matches against Tasmania and Queensland during the round robin, but they were crucial loses in the end. The loss to Tasmania hurt them badly in the race for the title.WA Men's Team
