Big Guns Come Out to Play at The Pacific Masters

Tony DavidAustralia’s premier dart players contest a fantastic last few rounds at the Pacific Masters Darts Championships in the Chan Building Darwin today. Three of the final four Men’s players have represented Australia at World Cups and other international events around
the world.

Tony David (pictured above) won his first Pacific Masters title when he defeated fellow Australian Team Representative Steve Duke in a fluctuating final. Duke started strongly winning the first two legs before David got on his wining way winning the next two. Duke responded strongly to take the next two to take a 4-2 lead. Tony David is renowned for his fighting ability and longer games go, the better be plays. He fought back to win the next four legs and win the title 6-4.

Finals Averages: Tony David 28.152 – Steve Duke 26.005 (pictured below) Steve Duke
The first semi final saw two world champions clash. Tony David from Townsville (2002 World Professional Champion) and Graham Hunt from Perth (1997 World Masters Champion) played an exciting match but Australia’s latest world champion Tony David was to strong this year taking the honours 5-0.

The second semi final had Steve Duke Snr from Melbourne and Perth’s Brad Austen up against each other. Steve Duke ranked No.21 in the world showed brilliant form to account for Austen 5-1.

Over 100 of Australia’s top ranked men’s players contested this event.

New South Wales representative Carol Forward (pictured left with Kerry Jacobs) had sweet revenge in this year’s Ladies Pacific Masters. She lost the final last year to Queensland’s Nancy Homer, but took out the event this year by defeating another NSW player in Kerry Jacobs. This is the second time she has won the title, previously winning in 1995. Forwood should plenty of fight to win the final winning 4-1.

The semi finals were very closely contested. Forwood defeated Lee-anne Faulkener from Tasmania in the first semi final 3-2. In the second semi final Kerry Jacobs had a big win over Louise Ball (WA) who won this event in Brisbane in 2001.
Jacobs winning 3-2.

It was great to see Northern Territory player Kathleen Logue make it through so far into this event. Kathleen is a junior player and will represent Australia in Epinal France at the World Cup late in September.

Final averages: Carol Forwood 20.483 – Kerry Jacobs 19.765

Today’s competition highlighted how strong and even the darts competition is at
this level.
Some of the big names that you would expect to come through to the finals were early casualties in gaining some of the prize money and international ranking points.

Both the Ladies and Men’s events hold World Ranking Points, and both winners have gained an invitation into the Winmau World Masters being played in the U.K. late in October by winning this event.
