New Australian Doubles Darts Champions

Australian Darts has new Australian Doubles Darts Champions. Both the Ladies and Men’s titles were won by new doubles combinations at the 24th Australian Darts Championships in Darwin. These players showed their great talent when the pressure is on to win their first titles.

Helen Johnston and Sandra SmithTasmanian players Helen Johnston and Sandra Smith (pictured right) played brilliant darts to over power Victorians Tracey James and Sheryll Beasy in the final of the Australian Ladies Doubles Championship. The ladies from the apple isle won the first three legs to jump out to an early lead. The Vic girl’s won the fourth leg to get on the board score wise, but that was the end of their run. They had chances to win other legs but could not hit that elusive double. The Tassie Ladies have been a strong combination on the ladies circuit for a number of years winning several big tournaments including the Fairfield Classic Doubles. This is only the second time a Tasmanian combination has won this event – the last time being back in 1989 when Maree Stuart and Jenny Tansley won. Final score being 5 – 1.

Their opponents, Victoria’s Steve Duke and Justin Thomson were struggling to match the scoring power of the Queenslander’s but managed to start a challenge by winning the fifth leg. They managed to win the seventh leg to bring the score back to 5 – 2 when Justine Thompson finished the leg with a 115 checkout. The Queensland pair started the eighth leg and with the 16th dart, Dave Nogar Jnr hit double 19 with one dart to claim the title with a score line of 6 – 2.
