New Zealand Masters

Herbie NathanWhat a fantastic weekend of darts it was at the Manawatu Darts Club in Palmerston North for the 2004 New Zealand Masters - there were 63 men's and 36 Ladies Pairs entered and 108 men & 72 women for the Singles. Played on the 20th of June and carrying WDF Ranking points the New Zealand Masters carried $6050.00 in prizemoney. Peter Hunt was knocked out in the last 32 by Les Luke and Simon Whitlock went down to Peter's Nationals Pairs Partner Bill (Willis) Fergus in the last 16 (Simon scored 17 180's over the weekend). In the Ladies Singles, five visitors from across the Tasman made the quarter finals but could not win the title.

First prize of $750.00 went to Megan Smith after she lost the first two legs to Carol Forward and then just took control of the match taking the next five legs to win the final 5-2.

Semi Finals: Megan Smith (Waimarino) defeated Chrissy Sherrin (HV) 4-0
Carol Forward (NSW) defeated Corrine Hammond (NSW) 4-3

Carol Forward (NSW) defeated Lynne Smith (NSW) 3-0

Chrissy Sherrin (HV) defeated Denise Walker (West City) 3-1

Herbie Nathan (Hutt Valley) (pictured above) walked away after the final $1500.00 richer after he defeated Preston Ridd (Canterbury) 5-4 in a match that went down to the wire.

Ladies Doubles

Megan Smith and Kim Roe were successful in taking out the Ladies Doubles defeating Chris Hay and Helen Makiha 4 – 0 in the final.

Equal 3rd: Kerry Jacobs & Bubs Sylva, Dianne Short & Sharon Black

Men’s Doubles

Peter Hunt and Neville Moss had a comfortable win in the final of the Men’s Doubles, defeating Ra Tata and Herbie Nathan 4 – 1.
