ANDY FORDHAM TO REMAIN WITHIN THE WDF/BDO SYSTEM
After weeks of speculation concerning the future of England
star Andy Fordham, the BDO has issued a press release, which
can be seen below.
The British Darts Organisation is delighted that ANDY FORDHAM,
the 2004 Lakeside World Professional Darts Champion, will continue
to be an ambassador for BDO/WDF darts in this country and throughout
the world.
"I have played BDO darts all my life and nothing will change
that", says Andy as he prepares to compete in the Tempus
International Darts League in The Hague. "Jenny and I are
part of the BDO family and, since 1994, Lakeside has become a
second home to me. After reaching four Semi-Finals, to be crowned
the first Lakeside World Pro Champion in 2004 was the greatest
moment in my life, and it has changed everything for the better.
I can't wait to get back to Lakeside in 2006!"
Watched by the largest audience for darts in the world - 4.6
million BBC viewers and darts fans in 74 countries around the
globe - Andy's Lakeside World Pro victory confirmed his undeniable
status as the best known and best loved player in world darts.
The massive TV exposure and publicity generated by his victory
in the No.1 Championship in World Darts, has gone on to enhance
his darts career by establishing him as a TV celebrity through
numerous guest appearances on a whole range of TV shows, including
top-rating series like 'Celebrity Fit Club' and 'Ant & Dec's
Saturday Night Takeaway'.
As the biggest character in world darts, 'The Viking' will
be competing in the Tempus International Darts League from
May 7th to 15th and his ongoing schedule includes the Bavaria
World Darts Trophy, Winmau World Masters and the 2006 Lakeside
World Professional Darts Championships - all televised majors
in the BDO Grand Slam title.
In addition, Andy has been selected to play for England in
the WDF World Cup in Perth, Australia later this year.
