Dutch Leading the way - 1st International Darts League.

Again the Netherlands have added another BDO-Ranking-tournament to the international darts-calendar.

From May 17th to 25 the "Uithof" in the Hague (Jaap Edenweg 10) the 1st International Darts League will be organised by "Schoofs Management Bureau".

The Top 28 players of the BDO, along with three wildcard players and a player appointed by the NDF will contest for the first "IDL-title" and the pricemoney that comes with it. The tournament also carries ranking-point (equal to the Embassy and the World Darts Trophy).

31 players are already known. The 32nd player will come from the tournament that will be arranged shortly by the Dutch Darts Federation. For this event, the best players from the national rankings, the players from the national league winners and cup winners teams will be invited. Australia's Tony David and Steve Duke are participating.

The playing format of the event will not be a knockout from the start like the Embassy or the WDT. 32 players will start in 8 groups of 4. Each group will play a round robin and the top 2 players of each group will qualify for the next stage, like the UEFA Champions League football event.

For the winner of the tournament (only mens event) a cheque of Euro30.000,= ( 82.500 Pounds) is waiting. If a participator achieves a 9-darts leg, the keys to a Euro25.000,= worth car will be handed over to him.

This 9-days event will be covered by Netherlands no 1's darts transmitter SBS-6. Most of it will be broadcasted live at prime time. The venue has a seating capacity of over 2000 spectators.

From the intentionally invited 28 players, some had to cancel their invitation. Steve Coote, Gary Anderson, Peter Johnstone and Mark Dudbridge. 4 substitutes were appointed.
